I think I'm making progress on HANDLING THE TRUTH until ...

I take all of those books down from the shelf (memoirs, most of them, or theories about them) and realize:  I haven't even scratched the surface.  So much to say.  So much to re-read.  So much to ponder.

One day at a time, I tell my tired soul.

Beth, you are so right on this.

This is why I avoid certain books and authors. I don't want their work, however great a read, however "relevant to what I'm writing" it may be--to unfairly directly or indirectly interfere with the way I look at storytelling.

Especially how I show (and when appropriate, tell...) my stories. I think more writers would do their critique groups and themselves a favor, and simply watch how you suggest books and writers for people to read.

Few people have either the patience or personality (Or BOTH!) to be force fed books they're not ready for, whatever the reason, and we should respect that in our fellow writers.

Thanks for acknowledging what many writers like me need to hear from someone other than ourselves now and then.

I hope your reading brings some joy, not just sorrow, we need both to be whole.

Seeing that pile has rendered me speechless. (Could you just pick a few?)
